Well, folks, we have some very exciting news!!
Proboards is going to be releasing a new message board service in a little while with a slightly new look but a very similar layout and TONS of new features.
We aren't sure when, exactly, the new version will be available, but we have been given a test site for admins to play around with. I've been on the site on and off today and it's actually pretty incredible!
For those who don't like change, you will be happy to know that the layout itself is VERY similar and everything is basically more user friendly and more streamlined to let you do what you want to do quite a bit faster.
There are new shortcuts to bounce between threads faster, new emoticons and options for posting, some wonderful advancements in terms of PMs and your profile options, and lots of fun new features as well, so we are really excited to have this coming our way soon!
Here are some of the main new feature we think you'll be interested in:
- a "like" button - the ability to tag people in your posts - links between the site and your Twitter and/or Facebook accounts so you can create easy posts linking to the site or invite friends from your contacts to join us here - PMs can be sent to multiple people much easier and you have the option to send them separately or together, which will change whether or not replies come just to you or to everyone you PMd together - PM replies will show up in a conversation-type layout, much like our threads do now, so you'll be able to see the back-and-forth PMing without having to use the quote button - video links will automatically be embedded or there's a great new way of embedding them without worrying about using the proper HTML code - you can set notifications to your profile for numerous things (when someone replies to a post of yours, when someone sends you a PM, when someone quotes a post of yours, etc.) to either send you an email notification and/or show up as a notification on your home page, giving you quick and easy access to people's replies or quotes to your posts - new emoticons (including a hilarious ninja smiley face) - an avatar creator that is quite easy to use rather than linking photos from outside sources like Photobucket to use an image as your avatar - PLUS, all of the features here have been carried over but most are so much easier to work with!!
We will keep you all informed as we test more of the new site out and get a better idea of when Proboards is planning on launching this new version. When the time comes, they will quickly and rather efficiently copy everything over from our old site to the new site seamlessly.
In the meantime, there are a few of us who are testing out the site to look for any bugs or glitches and to make sure that we know what all of the features are and how to work them, as well as to make sure we know how to adjust things and fix up the layout once we have the new site launched, as anything we do on the current test site won't apply when that time comes.
We have also discussed putting together a Tutorials / Tech Tips section here on the boards that will become available to you once we launch to the new site, with tips and step-by-step instructions on the things you'll want to learn how to do on the new site. We feel this will help everyone to get to know the new site quicker and easier and not miss out on any of the new features they will want to be able to use.
If you have any questions or comments or concerns, or want to know more about anything at all about this new site, please feel free to post in this thread or send me a PM and I will do my best to get you the answer or address your concern.
We want to make this a smooth transition when it happens, so we want to make sure that everyone is well prepared!! And it's not really that different from these boards, just with a lot of upgrades that you'll love, so we think everyone will be fine once the site changes over. Plus, for anything that you may need help adjusting to or learning, your admin team is here to help you out!!
I promise you that you will love the new upgrade and even those of you who despise change of any kind will honestly feel that the small changes are worth the great new features and you won't find too much different at all either! If I had any concerns that the upgrade would turn anyone away or make it too difficult for people to make the transition, I would suggest that we just keep things as they are. But I really do believe that you will all love the new upgrade and we will do everything we can to make sure the transition is a positive one and not something to be worried about!!
But if you do have concerns, please speak your mind now, either in this thread or via PM to me so we can address that before we move forward.
Sounds really great. I look forward to "easier" with any tech or computer related function. I know that if I need any assistance here someone,usually Teel comes to my rescue. (thanks for that Teel) and all others that have mercy on this I.T. delinquent.

When do you think these changes will start? Because I'm seeing a few differences when posting. Is it ProBoards or is it my browser going crazy?
Nothing has changed on the boards we're currently using, so it must just be your browser.
They haven't told us any kind of timeline yet for the new boards. We're currently in a user-testing phase so they can work out any bugs or glitches before they go live with the new boards. We should have some pretty good notice about it, though, so we will let you folks know as soon as we have any news!
