I was looking at the minutes per episode today as I was loading "Secret Santa" onto my iPad. Episodes 1, 3 and 5,6,7,8,9 have 44 minutes. Looks like they finally gave Castle another minutes to work with this season. Before they only got 42 or 43 minutes. Yeah more Castle!!

Wow, good eye, Tych! Advertisers might not be happy, but I don't think you'll find any viewers complaining. Wonder how those decisions are made.

Obviously the show is garnering enough ad revenue to allow for shorter ad space.

Have you guys noticed that the On Demand Version now carries all the commercials. Or, at least on Fios. Used to be we would get a preview of Beauty and the Beast or some Disney Pixar film, but now, it is full blown commercials. This shows how well loved this show it. More and more people are watching it and it becomes profitable for advertisers.

Oddly enough, though, popularity is what usually leads to more ad time, not less. That's why Hulu has progressed from 1-2 ads per break to 3, and even the length of the commercials has increased to 30 seconds or more. More people are watching it, so they can sell more ads and make more money. To my knowledge, most other popular shows still only get 42-43 minutes, even OUAT.
So I'm not sure it's a simple matter of ratings, but unfortunately, I don't know enough about the industry to offer any other theories.

I was just searching other shows total minutes and most are 43 or 42. Last Resort got 45 for one episode? Bones had a few 44 min. episodes. So I am thinking rather than taking the 24 episodes Andrew asked if they could just have 1 more minute in 23 episodes? You know how much they can do with one minute of screen time. Castle has great adds during the episodes. These are not one you see all day long but are targeted to Castle viewers. I think all is well with Castle

I don't how they count the time because all Full Castle episodes that I have after I removed all commercials are still 41-42 minutes including Secret Santa. In that 41-42 mins, I included the credit roll or the promos for coming episodes.

ITunes lists each episode and the minutes. That is where I am getting the minutes.

I just looked at mine and they were all 42 min and random seconds... but without credits.
