Has anyone checked out this website? fashiononcastle.blog.com/The woman who runs it posts updates after almost every episode and does a pretty good job of tracking down special requests from fans. Even though I can't come close to affording the likes of Helmut Lang, Burberry, or Etro, it's nice to get inspired. I do a lot of second-hand shopping because I like the variety and unexpected finds (I just got a gorgeous red leather jacket for $20!). Anyway, since I adore Kate's style, I've found this to be a helpful site for getting an up-close look of the kinds of clothes to look for.

No problem! I love getting a closer look at those clothes! I would love the black version of that camel Burberry Kate wore in After Hours. Would totally spaz out if I could own one of those! Wowsers.

Great stuff. I ran across that site last year looking for something equivalent for Castle, Esposito, and Ryan. Other than the occasional tumblr post, no luck. Good luck with that red leather jacket! Whenever I watch the guys (Castle, Espo, Ryan), their clothes look "normal" but nice. They don't scream metrosexual or loud but when I dress in a similar fashion while I'm out with Mrs. Java, everybody STARES! I wore a trench similar to Espo's below and people were staring and some were touching the coat, "Oh, that's beautiful". Um, stop touching me. I have a peeve about strangers touching me. Old friends, not a problem. Everybody else: creepy. Esposito rocking the Burberry trench in 2x13, "Sucker Punch". I guess what I'm saying is go and have fun and get ready for some major ogling!!! But, if you do want folks to stare at you, ignore me and more power to ya! Anyhow, here's mine. us.burberry.com/store/menswear/trench-coats/london/prod-38074431-mid-length-cotton-gabardine-tonic-weave-trench-coat/?search=true

OMG, Java! YOU FASHION PLATE YOU! lol.... FANTASTIC! And, ummmm, sorry, but if I saw you, I think I would have to hug you. Cuz I ain't no stranger. I had to Google "Fashion plate". Wait, what? No, I'm just replacing my wardrobe because I lost a ton of weight and nothing fits and I'm 40 so I figured I should dress like an adult and wait. What? I mean I don't look like anything out of GQ because I don't usually like what I see there but I keep getting called "GQ" by women who obviously haven't flipped open Gentlemen's Quarterly in the last ten years. I mean I keep it simple. Fit is king. Wear lots of blues. Shined leather shoes rule. Belt and shoe matches but they don't have to perfectly. Don't look wrinkled. No blends (they unravel). Jacket/coat if weather permits. Toss the good stuff in your closet if you've replaced them with great stuff. Quality over quantity after FIT. Oh, gawd, I am a fashion plate. I'd hug you right back, castlekat!

Java, I could take some lessons from you! I am notoriously fashion-impaired and only recently began paying attention to crafting my own style and dressing in more than jeans and t-shirts. And like you, it had a lot to do with losing weight and finally being able to fit in more clothes. Finding examples to mimic is the only way for me to dress better because I have no skill at putting things together on my own.

Okay, giving women fashion advice scares me but here I go. Keep it simple in the beginning. These are only guidelines. 1. Start with upgrading your undergarments. Think quality, comfort, fit, and durability (avoid "Dry Clean Only"). As much as I love seeing the frilly stuff, save that for later. I want you to buy enough to last 2 weeks without having to do laundry. YOu don't have to buy it all tomorrow. Color? Pick stuff that you can grab in the dark, with a massive hangover, with one hand tied behind your back. You're not trying to impress a significant other here. You're trying to dress easily in the morning, comfortably, and if that means it's all beige, so be it. If you get through the entire day and your undergarments haven't called attention to themselves, you're doing good. Next. 2. Buy quality, well fitting, comfortable, and durable support pieces. What's a support piece? They are the pants and shirt and dress that no one will notice but you because they're basic and simple and comfortable. Keep with blue/navy, white, and greys. Blacks are tough. Blacks are great for evening wear but navy is more versatile during the day. Add an earthtone color like brown. What you're trying to do here is create a canvas for your signature piece. These are your supporting elements. The bulk of your purchases and budget goes here. 3. Avoid Signature pieces until you've upgraded your support pieces unless opportunity presents itself and it's a gotta have. In the beginning, I want you to focus on dressing with only one signature piece. That piece is the color on the canvas of supporting pieces. As you find your style, you can push the envelope and wear 2, 3, or 4 signature pieces but for now keep it simple and it can be as easy as a simple supporting pair of jeans, a simple top, and a signature "Look at me I'm a Goddess" handbag. Keep it simple. 4. Shoes. Shoes for women are tough for me to recommend because they're expensive yet poorly constructed. I'm not against expensive shoes, most decent men's leather shoes start at $300, but women, ouch. Way out of my area of expertise. Just buy comfort and supporting piece and wait later for that signature Louboutin. Once you've upgraded most of your wardrobe and you have a style dialed in, then go crazy and wear that Burberry trench with a pair of red 2" Louboutin (supporting piece under the trench of course). 5. Unfortunately, it doesn't stop there for you gals. Happy with your hair? Great! Time for an updated, modern look? Find something that you can maintain. Keep it as a supporting piece. Stana takes 90 minutes to dry her hair. Do you have that time? Do you have an army of stylist? No? Then your hair cannot be a signature piece unless a stylist is working on your hair for an important event (e.g. weddings). Same goes for nails. And makeup. Keep it simple and manageable but always keep it managed. Make an effort but manage your time. 6. Have fun. You're on a road of self discovery. Folks will push you, mock you, say crazy stuff that they think is funny. It'll take some time for them to adjust to the new you. I find it funny that society cheers celebrities for reinventing themselves but we jeer our friends for doing it. I've been at the same company for over 7 years. I look nothing like the photo on my company badge. That's quite a shocker for a lot of folks but they'll get used to it and so will you. Have fun. Smile. Develop a wicked devilish grin. Laugh. 7. This should probably be #1 but I just thought of it after going over what I wrote. Mimic but stay within the guildelines for now. Like what Stana wears? Print it out! In the beginning, I bookmarked a ton of clothes. I read Styleforum and AskAndy and a bunch of other blogs. I looked at everybody's "What Are YOu Wearing Today". Most I hated. Some I liked. Some I would make 1 or 2 changes. And you know what? I never went back. I tried out stuff at the store and my #1 bookmark was a mirror. Try stuff on. Kick the tires. Educate yourself and your taste. I promise you it will evolve and change and you will have a great time and things you thought would be great hangs all wrong on you and stuff that you wouldn't be caught dead in turns out to be magnificent (usually not, lol!). Try it on even if it's out of your price range at the moment or forever. Best coat I ever tried on was a Burberry coat that was partially a frock and partially something out of Sleepy Hollow and it was the most amazing coat I ever tried but there is absolutely no way I will ever buy it - $4000. But it was awesome and fun and one day I may find something similar but not astronomically priced. Okay, enough rambling. Hope that helped.

This site is so cool!! I love Beckett's fashion. Although looking at the prices I'll never own a stitch. Her coats are beautiful and I'll still day dream of wearing them...and just about everything else she wears. And man does she layer like a champ. I'm not good at seeing things together like that. I'll have to just start trying stuff more often.
Well this might be one of my new favorite sites. I'll definitely be wasting plenty of time on it. Thanks for sharing!!! ;D

I am wearing an official Kate Beckett-inspired outfit today, loosely taken from An Embarrassment of Bitches. I have a maroon turtleneck similar to the one she wore at the end of that episode, paired with a charcoal-grey blazer she wore earlier and dark blue jeans. fashiononcastle.blog.com/archives/390/And for the record, yes, I'm feeling pretty bad-ass!

Bad-ass and sexy! Sooo proud of you. It's not about the clothe, it's about looking good and feeling good. We are taught as children to think positively about ourselves, to keep a PMA. Clothes and grooming are the physical ways in which we may project that PMA along with our behavior and it's much easier to feel awesome when what we see in the mirror does not conflict with our views of ourselves. It's not vanity, it's putting our best foot forward and facing the day. Most of us are not born looking like Nathan or Stana but we can take the time to pay value to our self worth and do the best we can with what we've got within our means. We don't need a $3,000 Burberry to feel good about ourselves but we should value ourselves and take the time to care for ourselves because we are worthy. Have an AWESOME day because you are AWESOME, angie1379.
